Pseudotumour cerebri and the Turner syndrome.
One of 170 patients with karyotype-proven Turner syndrome from our institution has had pseudotumour cerebri. This patient and one previous report suggest that patients with Turner syndrome may be predisposed to increased intracranial pressure. Fourteen patients with pseudotumour cerebri were ascertained from hospital records; karyotypes of four were obtained and were normal. Karyotyping may be ...
متن کاملPseudotumour cerebri syndrome due to cryptococcal meningitis.
Three cases are reported of the pseudotumour cerebri syndrome-that is, intracranial hypertension without mass lesion or enlarged ventricles, due to cryptococcal meningitis. In these patients the papilloedema was successfully treated with optic nerve sheath decompression, and the intracranial hypertension with lumboperitoneal CSF shunting. These cases support the concept that pseudotumour cerebr...
متن کاملThe syndrome of pseudotumour cerebri and idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a condition in which raised intracranial pressure is associated with a high body mass index, and in those societies in which the prevalence of obesity is increasing the disorder is of increasing importance. متن کاملPseudotumour cerebri associated with arteriovenous malformations.
The association of intracranial hypertension and arteriovenous malformations is described in two patients. Both patients had the typical clinical features of pseudotumour cerebri and were found to have intracranial arteriovenous malformations on arteriography. The mechanism of raised intracranial pressure in patients with arteriovenous malformations is discussed.
متن کاملCerebrospinal fluid oestrone in pseudotumour cerebri.
The concentration of oestrone in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from obese young women with pseudotumour cerebri was much greater than predicted and found in normal subjects. Each woman with pseudotumour cerebri, and a high level of CSF oestrone and a CSF protein less than 0·2 g/l, had clinical improvement when treated with an 800 calorie/day diet and dexamethasone 2 mg/day.
